Chest
Place tape high under arms, straight across back and over chest. Insert a finger between tape and body to insure proper fit. This measurement usually determines coat size.
Shirt Sleeve Length
With arms at side, measure from the neck bone, at nape of neck in center of back, over the top of shoulder down the arm to the wrist bone.
Waist
Place the tape around body just above the hip bones. Insert a finger between the tape and body to insure a proper fit. It is best to ask the customer if he desires the waist of his trousers tight or loose and measure accordingly.
Outseam
Have the customer place his pants on his waist where he is comfortable. Ask what type of shoe, specifically heel size, will be worn. Measure from the top of the waistband to the top of the heel of the shoe. An estimate will be necessary if shoes are different than ones to be worn with the tuxedo. This is a good time to talk about shoe rental.
Weight
Most people know their weight. It gives an indication as to the body type.

Neck
Ask customer if he likes this collar tight or loose. With collar unbuttoned, place the tape around the neck at the level the collar would fall if buttoned and take measurement, keeping customer's usually wears. This will be a guide in determining a comfortable fit.
Over Arm
This measurement is taken similiar to the way the chest is measured except this time include both arms. The usual difference between the overarm and chest measurement is 8 inches. Anytime this difference exceeds 8" the customer is given a coat one size larger than the size designated by the chest measurement.
Hips
Place the tape around the largest part of the seat, making sure all bulky articles are removed from pockets and heels are together. This measurement is usually very close to the chest size. If it is much larger, pant waist should be made larger to accomadate.
Height
Most people know their height. The height measurement usually determines the variation of the coat size. In the chart below please note the relationship between height, coat variation, shirt sleeve length and coat sleeve inseam.
